Baptistery

The octagonal baptistery was connected by a columned courtyard with the Memorial Church. The baptismal font was lined with marble and overarched by a wooden baldachin with curtains.

The baptistery floor was covered by mosaics depicting ducks and peacocks. For Christians, the octagon presented a symbol of baptism and resurrection. By virtue of baptism, the faithful were born into a „new life" and for the resurrection.
